G-HydroFlex - Application of GRID techniques to the hydro elastic modelling of mono and multi hull vessels



The vision for the G-HydroFlex product is a web based system where designs can be submitted for analysis and followed up with an interactive dialogue between engineers and the various services linked together via a portal. By adopting suitable protocols the facilities offered would be capable of combination with other, related services to provide greater scope to engineers working in this general area. Users would access the tools provided without the need for software being shipped in the traditional way via CD-ROM and would be able to use the service within the scope of their own company intranet, or as a secure extranet for clients of the licensed software, normally, on a ‘pay per use’ basis. Computations would be initiated from the portal and distributed over available Grid based resources. Users would sign onto the system using Grid certification. This vision is common to the other marine science projects at Southampton.
