A Grid-Based approach to the Validation and testing of lubrication models

Grid-Based V&T of lubrication models


The aim of this project is to show how a Grid-based paradigm for undertaking co-operative, multidisciplinary, computational engineering research can be used to improve the design of computational models of lubricants. The work will be undertaken in collaboration with Shell Global Solutions who have an interest in designing lubricants with the best possible physical, rheological and chemical properties in terms of the performance of the lubricant between moving mechanical contacts. The project will build upon existing collaborative research with Shell which has led to the development of efficient numerical algorithms and software for the solution of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) problems and the development of a prototype parallel simulation environment through which this software may be easily controlled. We now wish to develop this work further by incorporating it within a Computational Grid. This will allow remote collaborative research to be undertaken in an efficient interactive manner and will also permit us to make use of computational resoures on the Grid to provide lubricant parameter sensitivity and optimisation modules based upon multiple concurrent simulations.
