Dynamic Virtual Organisations in e-Science Education

DyVOSE is a 2-year project funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) involving the National e-Science Centre at both the University of Glasgow and Edinburgh, the University of Salford and EDINA. Its intention is to explore the establishment of scalable Virtual Organisations (VOs) in the domain of e-Science education. VOs allow shared use of computational and data resources by collaborating institutions through grid technologies. Currently, the establishment of a VO in the Grid community is primarily achieved through comparison of an entities’ name with an Access Control List which confirms the user’s identity. This process (authentication) says nothing about the accessibility of remote resources for this entity (authorization), and lacks scalability when applied to large scale Grids for industry or education.
