e-Science Training Team at NeSC

Support is requested for two staff for three years to develop and deliver training courses and other technical support in order to equip many research scientists and developers with proficient skills in using e-Science techniques and infrastructure. In particular these staff will help the participants and users of the GridPP and AstroGrid projects, other UK e-Science projects and European IST Framework 6 projects, such as EGEE, in rapidly acquiring the skills needed to develop those projects or to make best use of the infrastructure provided by those projects. The proposal is timely for two reasons:1. It is complementary to the EGEE bid for training and outreach staff led by NeSC and is necessary to comply with that project’s requirements. 2. It is an appropriate response to the substantial demand for training at NeSC.T he training team will be managed and integrated with the other activities of NeSC. In particular it will make extensive use of the event management team at NeSC, the training room and computational infrastructure at NeSC and NeSC’s network of contacts with major Grid activities and organisations. Training requirements will be elucidated by careful consultation with the UK e-Science community.
