An e-Science resource for High Throughput Protein Crystallography



The project aims to establish a GRID-based e-Science environment to allow structural biologists remote, integrated access to high throughput technologies associated with protein crystallography including those being developed for Diamond, the new UK synchrotron. GRID-enabled procedures will be developed for all stages of model development from protein production through to depositiion of the final refined model presented via a single, easy-to-use interface. Proper data models will be develoed together with software for automated collection of diffraction data and on-the-fly strcture determination using coarse-grained parallelization on computer clusters. DTI has provided funding from its Harnessing Genomics programme to support research an additional Post Doc for 2 years at the start of the project to address technology transfer issues. The aim will be to evaluate customer requirements, develop generic procedures to meet these needs and to develop secure methods for transfer of information to and from databases in industry. The Post Doc will also initiate negotiations with the European Patent Office and industry over electronic deposition of structural information.
