GRAB: Biodiversity and the Grid

This project builds on the SPICE (Species 2000 Interoperability Co-ordination Environment): BBSRC/EPSRC-funded project investigating a federated catalogue of life. The aim is to (a) demonstrate the use of the SPICE catalogue of life in a GRID scenario for biological problem solving, (b) to make SPICE available on the GRID, and (c) to extend SPICE to work with image and climate databases. This would ultimately allow complex biodiversity queries such as ‘what countries in a world might a given species be successfully introduced into?'
