Pilot Grid for Simulation of Biological Macromolecules

There is a need to extend the concepts of the Grid to the biology community because of their increased computational requirements together with increased need for data transfer and data storage. The modelling and simulation community is willing to set up a pilot Grid in collaboration with PPARC in order to transfer knowledge of the relevant methodology from one community (that of Particle Physicists) to another community. In order to design and develop such a Grid approach, we require one computational post to be based at RAL with Dr Jeffreys group. The role for such a person would be to (1) enable this knowledge teansfer to take place and (2) design and develop the proposed prototype Grid linking eventually five groups within the UK with a hub at RAL for datastorage.
