Grid Enabled Electromagnetic Optimisation

GEM

http://www.soton.ac.uk/~gridem

GEM will provide a tool for grid-enabled electromagnetic optimisation by providing seamless access to a state-of-the-art collection of optimisation and search tools, industrial strength analysis codes, and distributed computing and data resources. The industrial partners for the project will be Mesophotonics Ltd, a start-up company working on the design, fabrication, and characterisation of next-generation planar photonic devices. Access to the technologies from GEM will allow for the application of grid-based optimisation technologies to their electromagnetic design problems and provide an early exemplar of the take up of grid-technologies. These will give an edge in the extremely competitive photonics market to a company that would not have the resources in-house to deploy the expertise that this grid-based system will provide.
