The project has three main phases. First, existing software in the form of a 2D user interface construction toolkit, a 3D rendering kernel and a real-time distributed interaction system will be integrated with Grid middleware. This will provide a platform for building visualisation tools and applications capable of high performance visualisation of data that is transparently accessible from any Grid-enabled resource, and supporting real-time collaboration between geographically distant sites. Second, a suite of application specific programming tools will be constructed. Finally, a substantial user workbench based around sequence analysis will be built using the components to demonstrate their interaction and performance for a real end-user task.
