Abstract: In this paper we explore security issues at the Web service instance level, and conclude that security mechanisms need to be implemented at the instance level to enhance the security of Web service business processes. Additionally, an authentication system and an authorization system are proposed; both security systems cooperate to help service instances generate trust relationships at run-time. In order to evaluate the overheads introduced by the instance-level security mechanisms, experimental systems are implemented on both the GT4 and CROWN Grid infrastructures. In these experiments our security systems show good scalability. Experimental results also show that our security mechanisms can enforce instance-level security with a reasonable overhead.
