Abstract: The use of Grid technologies should enable scientists to efficiently perform research by devising workflows that involve the deployment of computationally intensive simulations on heterogeneous and geographically distributed high performance computing resources. In this paper we describe the RealityGrid infrastructure and outline the problems and progress achieved so far in its deployment, with particular attention to the end-user perspective. To illustrate the advantages of using Grid infrastructure for routine scientific research, we describe the application of the massively parallel and steerable lattice-Boltzmann code (LB3D) to the study of single and two phase flow in porous media.
