Abstract: Grid computing and architecture including associated problems are covered in this article. Current rewards from ongoing projects are discussed, such as the collaboration of IBM and Platform with the French Myopathy Association to create a grid that is enabling tens of thousands of Internet users to contribute unused processing cycles of their home computers to help muscular dystrophy researchers map more than 500,000 proteins. IBM's plans for the grid are also discussed.
