Abstract: The GIOD Project ran from 1996-2000 and investigated the use of WAN-distributed object database and mass storage systems for CERN's LHC data. This paper presents the results of the project focussing on the successful simulation of events for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment.
