Computational methods are central to modern algebra and discrete mathematics. Huge bodies of algorithmic and mathematical research are encapsulated in integrated algebraic software systems such as GAP (Groups, Algebras and Programming; see http://www.gap-system.org). However, these systems cannot exploit modern high performance computers, as they must do in order to address current and future research problems. This project is addressing this need by: i) a comprehensive re-engineering of the GAP system; ii) development of new scheduling and load-distribution technology to handle the irregular and dynamic nature of many symbolic workloads; and iii) a program of exemplar applications, dissemination and training targeting the GAP user and extender community. The main output will be a flexible, scalable, extensible and usable software base for the application of high performance computers in algebra and discrete mathematics, closely aligned with the needs of researchers in the area. This meeting is the first full face-to-face meeting of all the project partners and will be used to plan the future work of the project. Target AudienceThis meeting is intended for members of the HPC GAP project. ProgrammeThis event is provisionally scheduled to start at 09:30 Wednesday 17 February 2010 and close at 17:30 on Wednesday 17 February 2010.
