In recent years there have been significant changes in the way that research has been carried out, particularly with the development of the Research Grids and the eScience Programme. The global sharing of research materials in the education and research community has brought with it issues concerning Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and copyright. There is now a much stronger emphasis on collaborative working, not just in the UK education sector, but across the World.
It is important for JISC to raise awareness of these recent trends in the processing of research materials and to seek input from a range of people involved in the planning and implementation of research infrastructure developments. It is also an important opportunity for those of different subject disciplines to get together and share experiences and exchange views on how current research developments can make a difference to learning and teaching.
This workshop will explore issues concerning the cultural differences between disciplinary research groups, the barriers to planning and implementation (for example IPR and copyright concerns) and will explore generic and subject-specific user requirements.
The aims of the workshops are to provide delegates with an update on the status of current developments in e-Research and gain feedback from delegates to help inform the future work of the JISC. Delegates will therefore be expected to play a full part in the discussions during the day and make recommendations to JISC and other organisations on taking the Research agenda forward.
To enable us to address your needs, we would like you to identify the three main issues of concern to you and your organisation relating to eResearch environments. Please do this by identifying the three main issues of concern on your booking form.
The topics to be discussed will be of interest to the DfES, the Research Councils, research agencies, the Learning and Skills Development Agency, heads of academic departments, deans, directors of research and other senior members of universities or colleges.

JISC is playing an important part in the Research agenda, by exploring how research can be made accessible to the whole of the UK education sector by developing strong working relationships with the research councils and research community. Much of this work is being carried out through the work of its new committee, the Committee for the Support of Research (JCSR) and through JISC's development programmes.
