Meeting to explore the use of CampusGrids and to inform sites how to set up such CampusGrids for the first time.

The aims of the meeting are: to find out which centres are working in this area, the technologies that are being used, what might be done to share best practice, to look for commonality where appropriate, to help new sites create their own Campusgrids, and to consider how the centres may be interconnected to each other and to the UK National Grid Service.

Before lunch on the first day there will be a set of presentations which focus on the centres which are already running CampusGrids as production facilities. After lunch there will be a demonstration (in the main lecture theatre) showing the creation of a small Condor pool from scratch, and then presentations on how Centres can become part of the National Grid Service (NGS). The emphasis of the afternoon will be to address the practical issues of setting up CampusGrids and connecting to the NGS.

The second day will focus on the development work which is underway to introduce new technologies for CampusGrids. There is significant activity in many centres. A particular issue is likely to be the development of accounting procedures.

The target audience will be mainly computing service departments and e-Scientists directly involved in the development and operation of CampusGrids.

Purpose

Thursday
Overview of existing CampusGrid activities, determine best practice, understand security issues, explore full economic costing, outline challenges in setting up a CampusGrid, discuss how to connect with the National Grid Service, and review general methods for federation of resources.

Friday
Overview issues relating to sharing data within a CampusGrid environment, find consensus on what defines a CampusGrid (as preparation for the BOF at the All Hands Meeting); and review exciting new technologies which have potential for a second generation of CampusGrids.
