The first GUID workshop at NESCent in North Carolina established that Life Science Identifiers (LSIDs) would be accepted as the standard Globally Unique Identifier model for use by the Taxonomic Database Working Group. This implies that LSIDs will be promoted in the biosciences as a mechanism for uniquely identifying bio-resources on the Internet. This second workshop is to finalise the infrastructure necessary to support LSIDs within the biological/bioinformatics community.
