Overview of eSI Technical Facilities

  • A 100 Mbps network with a 75 Mbps bottleneck between eSI and JANET. For details of availability of patching points please see the more detailed room descriptions.
  • An IEEE 802.11b 11 Mbps Wireless Network which seems to work well with WiFi compliant cards.
  • An Access Grid allowing local attendees to participate in "virtual" meetings. Additional visualisation software can run alongside allowing presentations involving the sharing of, demonstration widows or PowerPoint presentations to local and remote audiences.
  • 3 XGA data projectors, two of which are portable, the other is permanently located in the Newhaven Lecture Theatre;
  • One overhead projector
  • A Training Lab with 20PCs. These have been running Windows XP for all the courses we have run so far; obliviously they can be rebuilt with alternative operating systems for instance Linux.
  • Sundry small items such as patch cables, power adapters, VGA cables, active speakers and VGA switches are also available.

If we do not have the required equipment on-site it is possible to hire in equipment. For instance we have hired in plasma screens for project demonstrations in the past. If you feel your event may require non-resident kit please let us know as soon as possible and we will put you in touch with our technical team to discuss possible solutions. Please note because of the expense incurred from this we cannot always fund the hire of additional equipment.
