    Air - Edinburgh and Glasgow Airport

      Edinburgh Airport
      Edinburgh International Airport is served by regular direct flights from many UK and European cities.
      From London, up to 20 flights (approx 1 hours duration) are available daily via Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports. Main operators are British Airways and British Midland.
      Taxis between Edinburgh Airport and the city centre cost approximately £15 and the journey time is 20-30 minutes.
      A bus service to the city centre operates every 15 minutes until 1930 on weekdays and then every hour thereafter. The journey time is 45 minutes. At weekends buses leave every 30 minutes. The cost is approximately £3.50.

      Glasgow Airport
      Glasgow International Airport is 80 kilometres from Edinburgh. From North America, there are convenient direct flights to Glasgow Airport. You may either catch a connecting flight to Edinburgh or use the rail link. A Taxi from Glasgow to Edinburgh costs £50 approximately.
      A bus service operates from the airport to Glasgow city centre and then on to Edinburgh. The journey takes 1 hour and 45 minutes and costs approx £5.

    Rail

      Railtrack online
      The main train station is Edinburgh Waverley. Rail travel from London's Kings Cross Station takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes and there are many rail connections from other UK cities. The station is approximately 15 minutes walk from the e-Science Institute.

    Coach

      National Express online
      Day and overnight coaches operate regularly between Edinburgh, St. Andrew Square bus station and London, Victoria Coach Station. The journey takes 8 hours and 30 minutes and costs approximately £25 for a return journey.
      The bus station is approximately 20 minutes walk from the e-Science Institute.

    Journey time from London, via the M1 and M6 Motorways, is approximately 8 hours.

    Ferry

      DFDS Seaways
      DFDS Seaways sail into Newcastle (2 hours' drive to Edinburgh) from Germany, Sweden and Holland.

      North Sea Ferries
      North Sea Ferries sail into Hull (5 hours' drive to Edinburgh) from Belgium and Holland. They operate crossings from Belfast and Larne to Stanraer and Troon(1.5 hours drive from Edinburgh). They also operate crossings to Newcastle from Norway and Sweden.
